Hello!
This blog is a bit of an exercise for me in trying to both develop my writing style and skills (articulate points better while maintaining a 'voice', as it were) and also to have somewhere to put down a lot of thoughts and opinions about things so that I can then just point at it and go "I said more here" on the off-chance anyone ever gives a shit. Maybe someone will find it useful, but also to be honest it just helps to get it down somewhere so it's "off the mind" and not just buzzing about the brain and making me want to spew it somewhere.
Specifically, at the moment, rather than just straightforward reviews (for that I dump posts on a tag on tumblr), I'm going to be trying to "hone in" on a specific element or elements of art I played or watched or listened to or so on recently; something a videogame does really well, or doesn't, or some aspect of an anime I really liked, etc. In addition to the above purposes, I think it has another use: as the amount of things I play or watch grow, I start to see where the creators whose works I love got their inspirations from, I get to see the ways it affected them, the things they found cool and took for their own work, and my understanding of how things are made grows.
To that end, I think highlighting such aspects of games or shows or songs is worth it, because maybe you can spot it in other artworks. Or like, it's something that's ultimately just aesthetic, but it really tickled me because combined with other aspects of the text, it contributes to an overall feel that elevates the art; and rooting out that sort of thing, highlighting and celebrating it might get more attention or consideration for such elements and help 'fill out' things.
And hell, maybe one day I'll actually complete something of my own, and this'll basically serve as a whole fucking reference guide.
